About Peace Not War :: Volume Two
THE PAST THREE YEARS HAVE PROVOKED THE MOST PROLIFIC PERIOD OF PROTEST MUSIC IN HISTORY, widely heard thanks to computer and Internet technology - first designed by the American military and now crucial tools used by activists to organise globally. The hundreds of anti-war song submissions for this new compilation demonstrate the power of "bedroom studio" technology. Some of the low-budget recordings blew away the producers and were selected for the compilation ahead of "signed" musicians.
THE DOUBLE ALBUM WAS PRODUCED IN LONDON BY A FEW MUSICIANS AND ACTIVISTS with a small but international network of volunteers. The lyrics are radically critical of the Bush-Blair-Howard war machine, but consistently insist on peaceful forms of resistance. THE CD COVER IS PURPLE AND GREEN - THE COLOURS OF THE GREENHAM COMMON WOMEN'S PEACE CAMP TO SYMBOLISE NONVIOLENCE. "We need to get creative in our resistance and perhaps do nonviolent direct action. If the 2 million protesters in Hyde Park on February 15th 2003 had gone to US bases instead sitting on the runways at Fairford or damaging radars at Menwith Hill - we could have perhaps stopped the war. The UK, more than any other country, has the power to create peace." The second Peace Not War album redefines protest music for the twenty-first century: non-stop funky beats on one disc and fat guitars on the other, with deep and inspiring lyrics throughout.

Proceeds Go To Peace Groups
Proceeds from the sale of Peace Not War CDs go to groups which use non-violent means to stop war and make peace. This is achieved in two ways :
1. Sales of Peace Not War CDs by Peace Groups
Peace Not War provides a fund-raising system for peace groups to generate income to fund their efforts towards peace. The majority of the CDs that Peace Not War produce are donated directly to nominated peace groups and are also sold to other groups at cost price. These groups can then sell the CDs at retail prices to raise funds independently.
2. Profits from the Peace Not War Cooperative are donated to Peace Groups
The Peace Not War Cooperative is a non-profit organisation that donates all profits to peace groups around the world, as decided by a concensus of Cooperative members.
Peace Not War :: Non-Profit Cooperative
Created in 2002 to produce a fundraising anti-war CD for grass-root peace groups, Peace Not War has expanded to become a non-profit cooperative of autonomous artists, creatives, activists, promoters and techies working together for peace.
Free from commercial and institutional expectations, Peace Not War creates, collects and disseminates the best anti-war music, video, art and information from around the world and offers it at live events, on CD releases, and also here on our website.
